The exciting children’s books used in class and the engaging instructional materials you’ll receive make this program enjoyable and effective. Materials are provided by the Institute of Reading Development, a leader in reading development curriculum for more than thirty years.

This self-paced workbook and accompanying audio CD teaches students first-grade phonics. The colorful artwork and engaging story keep children engaged and motivated. Pole and Vole and the Magic Bag includes an introduction for parents and easy-to-follow directions for each lesson so that your child can complete the workbook at his or her own pace after the program. This program makes it easy to select the right books for your child by providing you with two important tools: a Reading Development Booklist and a Book-Level Assessment. The Reading Development Booklist contains hundreds of titles of children’s books divided by level of difficulty, as well as sections of picture books and chapter books for reading aloud. The teacher will also provide you with an individualized Book-Level Assessment to help you select books at the appropriate level of difficulty for your child throughout first grade.

In class, your child will practice independent reading in children’s books written specifically for beginning readers. You’ll also receive two of these Easy Reader books to keep, to jumpstart your child’s independent reading at home.

In each class, the teacher will also read aloud from a wonderful picture book to build your child’s comprehension and love of reading.

The Program Guide and DVD provide guidance for completing the weekly home practice and explain the goals and methods of the program.
